About this Program

Successful events are powered by effective organization, communication and experienced personnel. Become a versatile and successful professional in the show and event management industry with our 12-month program. Not only will you be able to coordinate festivals, conferences, trade shows, corporate events, concerts, weddings and parties, you’ll have the opportunity to develop practical skills through an internship. This will also enable you to expand your network and build relevant knowledge to enable you to take the first step into the events industry.

Overview of Term 1

Throughout your first term, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of the event planning process and industry, how to produce and promote a concert (e.g. equipment, contracts with artists, venue selection, licenses and permits, etc.), basic accounting principles to run an event, planning business or work as a freelancer event planner as well as publicity and public relations for events.

  • Introduction to Event Management – 45 hours
  • Concert Planning and Logistics – 45 hours
  • Accounting Concepts – 45 hours
  • Media Promotion and Communication – 45 hours

Overview of Term 2

As you move into your second term, you’ll become familiar with the fundamentals of starting and running a successful event-planning business, marketing and promoting an event, effective event coordination (i.e. managing an event of the “day of”) as well as how to select, assess, negotiate, decorate and manage the ideal venue for an event.

  • Business Administration – 45 hours
  • Event Marketing – 45 hours
  • Event Coordination – 45 hours
  • Venue Management – 45 hours

Overview of Term 3

During this term, students will learn all of the important legal aspects related to planning an event (e.g. licenses, permits, insurance, laws and regulations, etc.) as well as how to effectively manage the hiring, training and supervision of employees and volunteers when planning an event.

You will also be required to complete an internship. You’ll be provided guidance on how to find an internship, how to behave in a professional manner as well as how to maximize the benefits of the experience.

  • Legal Aspects for Event Planners – 45 hours
  • Supervision of Employees and Volunteers – 45 hours
  • Event Planning Internship – 90 hours
